Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how Victim Advocacy Associates LLC (“Victim Advocacy Associates,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses and protects personal information through victimadvocacy.com and in the course of our work.
The people who come to us have often already had their trust abused. We hold your information to a higher standard because of it. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Contact form: your name, email address, optional phone number, whether you are an attorney, individual or family member, and the message you write.
- When you engage us: the information needed to provide our services, which may include financial statements, account records, correspondence, and other documents about the matter. See Case records you entrust to us.
- Payment: billing details processed by our payment provider. We do not store full card numbers.
Information collected automatically
- Technical data: like nearly every website, our hosting provider receives basic technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, used to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
- Fonts: some pages load typefaces from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when those pages load.
How we use it
- To respond to your inquiry and explain our services and fees
- To provide the services you engage us for, under a written agreement
- To coordinate with your attorney or with licensed professionals, only with your authorization
- To bill for our services and keep business records
- To keep the website secure and working
- To meet legal obligations
We do not use your information to market unrelated products, and we do not send marketing email unless you ask us to.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only as described here:
- Service providers who help us operate, such as website hosting (Cloudflare), contact form delivery, email, secure file transfer and payment processing. They may use your information only to provide their service to us.
- Your attorney and licensed professionals (such as licensed investigators or accountants) working on your matter, with your authorization.
- When required by law, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order, or to protect someone’s safety.
- If our business changes hands, information may transfer to a successor that agrees to protect it as this policy describes.
We do not sell personal information and do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under California law. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing.
Case records you entrust to us
Records shared during an engagement are confidential. We use them only to perform the work you engaged us for, store them with access limited to the people working on your matter, and return or securely delete them at the end of the engagement as your written agreement provides.
Please do not send sensitive records through the contact form or by ordinary email. We will provide a secure method once we speak.
About confidentiality and privilege: we are not a law firm, and communications with us are not automatically protected by attorney-client privilege. When an attorney engages and directs our work, some of it may be protected as part of that attorney’s case preparation. Whether any protection applies is a legal question for your attorney.
Cookies, tracking and Do Not Track
We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not allow third parties to track your activity across other websites through our site. Our hosting provider may set strictly necessary cookies to protect the site from attacks. Our homepage stores a small note in your browser for the length of your visit so its opening animation does not replay, which is not used to identify you.
Because we do not track visitors across websites over time, our site does not change its behavior in response to browser “Do Not Track” signals or Global Privacy Control signals; there is no such tracking to stop.
Security and retention
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), restricted access and secure file transfer for case records. No system is perfectly secure, and we will notify you as required by law if a breach affects your information.
We keep contact form inquiries for as long as needed to respond and follow up, and client records for the period stated in your engagement agreement or as required by law, then delete them securely.
Your choices and rights
You may ask us at any time to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you
- correct information that is inaccurate
- delete your information, subject to records we must keep by law
- stop contacting you
Send requests to arpey@victimadvocacy.com or through our contact page. We will verify your identity before acting on a request, respond within 45 days, and never treat you differently for making one. Residents of California and other states with privacy laws may have additional rights, and we will honor them as those laws require.
Children
Our website and services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information online from children under 13. If a matter involves a minor, we work with the minor’s parent, guardian or attorney.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here with a new effective date, and notify clients directly of any significant change.
